Welcome to early Spring on The Sunrise Coast, along with crisp sunny mornings and lighter evenings come a host of events and activities for all the family.
With the first signs of spring greenery from snowdrops to daffodils comes the opportunity to get outside in the beautiful Suffolk Countryside. Carlton Marshes, part of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, offer a number of children’s activity days during April from pond dipping to arts and crafts and for adults you will find a number of guided walks including a very early dawn chorus walk. Be sure not to miss their special Easter Challenge on Friday 2nd April!
The lighter evenings brings the first Beccles Ghost Walk of the season on Saturday 27th March, where those brave enough to take part will be taken to places where ghosts have been known to frequent this beautiful market town, and the first Beccles History Walk on Saturday 24th April, a guided walk that takes you back to a time in the colourful history of the town where you will meet characters from days gone by.
April sees the first Artists Boulevard in Nicholas Everitt Park - an open air exhibition in Oulton Broad with some great local artists and craftsmen including abstract canvases, local scenes, and photography, taking place every Sunday from April to the end of October. April also brings the first tour of the season of Southwold Lighthouse, don’t miss your opportunity to have a panoramic view Southwold in all it’s glory.
Should the weather take a turn for the worst, there are a number of fantastic family orientated shows on at our local theatres. At the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft, you will find the stage adaptation of George's Marvellous Medicine and at The Cut in Halesworth there’s fun with all your favourite characters from The Jungle Book. There’s also something for classical music enthusiasts with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Beethoven Gala at the Marina Theatre on Saturday 24th April – it promises to be a magnificent concert showcasing the music of one of the greatest composers of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven.
For some traditional family fun, why not pay a visit to Pinders Circus on Beccles Quay from 16th-18th April? A traditional family circus with live entertainment, dare-devil acrobatics, comedy and magic!
From 2nd to 27th March you get a chance to view the works of the Association of Suffolk Art Teachers at the Big Art Gallery in Beccles, winner of the Best Small Attraction at the Sunrise Coast Tourism Awards in 2009. The exhibition consists of 500 works by educational teachers who work and live in Suffolk.
For fans of the performing arts, Spring sees the return on the critically acclaimed HighTide Festival at The Cut, Halesworth from 30th April to 3rd May. The annual festival promotes rising young talent as the next generation of theatre makers. The festival features all aspects of performing arts including film, theatre and comedy.
