Shopping

Lowestoft offers a unique shopping experience with three distinct flavours.

The main town centre provides all the high street names, from large to small, in a tree lined pedestrian thoroughfare. At the bottom of the town you will find Bevan St, a little gem in its own right, with a mix of specialist shops all with parking right outside.

Off the main shopping street you will find the Britten Centre, comprising 19 retailers grouped under a barrel-vaulted Victorian style roof, with a 330 space multi-storey car park, the library and bus station all close by. The permanent covered market at the rear of the Britten Centre will add another dimension to your shopping experience, with a range of stalls from fresh fish to flowers.

To the south of the town you will find Kirkley. With plenty of parking and a choice of independent specialist stores, you are more than likely to find what you want here. With a florist, wedding hire/dress shop, music shop, furniture shops and chemist to name but a few, it’s the ideal choice for those preferring the smaller shopping environment.

North of the town you will find the old High St, providing the opportunity to shop in one of the most interesting and historic parts of the town. With both small retailers and services here along with several pubs and restaurants and the Heritage Workshop Centre, this part of town is a haven for those interested in finding out more about Lowestoft’s history. Alongside are the old Scores, passages that have been ‘scoured’ out of the cliff over times past by the people who lived in the old Beach Village. You can still walk up and down them today, and for the very keen the annual ‘Scores Race’ is always a highlight.

Southwold is a shopping treasure, in line with its uniqueness as a town. Its appeal lies in its wonderful collection of independent retailers, offering that ‘something different’ from the status quo. Around every corner and down every street you will find something to excite your retail taste buds! All offering an amazing range of individually inspired products, the shops there will leave you wanting more and you wont leave Southwold without something to remind you of your visit.

Moving inland our three market towns all offer that ‘something different.’

Beccles offers a wealth of diversity, combining history with modern day culture. Situated inland on the River Waveney, the town centre provides a blend of independent shops, restaurants and other services that will make a trip to Beccles memorable. Meander through the town, stopping along the way to indulge in a bite to eat or a well-earned rest down by the quay, watching the boats go by.

With its idyllic rural location and stunning views over the Waveney Valley, Bungay boasts a rich heritage of historic sites, an excellent selection of antique and specialist shops and a mouth-watering choice of enticing eateries. This thriving market town enjoys a tempting array of shops selling antiques, art, books, boutique clothes, crafts, delicatessen foods, gifts and leather goods along with the monthly farmers market, which is a must.

Just nine miles inland from Southwold and the stunning Suffolk coast you will find the charming market town of Halesworth. A warm welcome awaits visitors to the town, which prides itself on its small independent shops and locally produced foods The pedestrianised Thoroughfare provides an authentic market town shopping experience, centred around independent shops, continuing to the market place, where the weekly market blends the old with the new.
