Southwold is a wonderfully traditional seaside resort nestled along the beautiful Suffolk coastline.

Its simplicity in character and traditional nature creates the perfect haven from the demands of a modern society.

The award-winning beach runs alongside rows of the famous Southwold beach huts, gleaming in the sunshine in their vibrant multicolours. The popularity of Southwold was officially confirmed after the town was voted Britain’s most quintessential holiday resort in August 2007, claiming that Southwold is, and will always be, a nostalgic trip into the history of the British seaside.

Southwold is a town steeped in maritime history. Its unique museum houses a collection of paintings and photographs from the town’s past, whilst the Sailors Reading Room provides and insight into life for the local fishermen in the 1800’s.

Southwold’s maritime successes relied upon the beacon from the Lighthouse. Built in 1890 and standing an impressive 101 feet above the town, it was used to warn fishing boats of the approaching East coast.

The quintessential British seaside resort would not be complete without a traditional pier. It is a contemporary twist on the conventional pier but retains a 19th century charm in everything it offers, with gift shops, a boardwalk cafe and the bizarre ‘Under the Pier Show’.

Any visitor to Southwold should take in the sights of the Harbour and a walk along the banks of the River Blyth, where you will encounter the contrast between the tranquillity of a sunrise and the activity of the local fishermen landing their catch or the rowing boat ferrying people to Walberswick. The more adventurous will find a high-speed trip on the Coastal Voyager around Sole Bay to be an exhilarating ride to remember.

Southwold’s High Street is the perfect location for some serious retail therapy with a truly exceptional range of boutique-style outlets and for those who delight in finding restaurants that serve quality food exquisitely cooked, Southwold’s eating and drinking scene is ideal and many of the pubs serve local ales brewed at the famous Adnams Sole Bay Brewery.
