Towns and Villages

The Sunrise Coast is blessed with a wonderful mix of towns and villages, all with their own uniqueness and character. From classic coastal resorts to bustling market towns and delightful villages, The Sunrise Coast has something to appeal to everyone.

The coastal resort of Lowestoft is Britain’s most easterly town. You will be spoilt for choice with golden sandy beaches, the harbour, heritage quay, parks and gardens, museums, sporting facilities and a variety of shopping areas on offer.

The picturesque market towns of Beccles, Bungay and Halesworth have much to offer visitors including historic buildings, a castle, specialist shops, interesting churches and the river Waveney, with miles of peaceful unspoilt countryside just waiting to be explored.

The classic resort of Southwold is a haven from the demands of modern society. Nestling alongside the marsh fringes estuary of the River Blyth, it has a unique character and a history dating back to the famous battle of Sole Bay in 1672.

If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, The Sunrise Coast has a number of traditional villages, with ancient churches, village greens and country pubs that have remained almost unchanged over the passage of time.

Somerleyton, Blundeston and Lound all lie to the north of Lowestoft, whilst inland you can find a collection of hamlets and small villages known as The Saints. The Saints was an exceptionally affluent area during the Middle Ages, a success due to the Suffolk wool trade. St Peter’s is probably the most famous village in The Saints, due to its 13th Century hall, which in the mid 1990’s saw the creation of St Peter’s Brewery.
